Looking, feeling, and being young into our older years is something many of us want.

Most of us prefer a long, healthy life which we can enjoy without restrictions. Anti-aging products concentrate on our appearance. However, we need both the inside and outside of our bodies to be healthy and vibrant. What would an artificial intelligence program tell us to do?

Artificial Intelligence (AI) and Longevity

https://scitechdaily.com/extending-human-lifespans-ai-built-to-find-anti-aging-chemical-compounds/. The University of Surrey, England, built an AI model to identify chemical compounds that can extend human life. The Caenorhabditis elegans is a translucent worm with similar metabolic functions as humans. (https://dailyalts.com/ai-finds-anti-aging-compounds/)

The short lifespan of the worm allowed numerous AI suggestions to be tested to determine efficacy and safety. Three chemical compounds were found that increased the lifespan of the worm by 80% – flavonoids, fatty acids, and organooxygens,

Flavonoids & Longevity

https://pubmed.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/27609098/. Flavonoid-containing foods favor healthy aging in many species. Scientists discovered that flavonoids restrict energy consumption, inhibit insulin-like-growth-factor signaling, and promote antioxidant defense. Blueberry extract, black tea, green tea, and pomegranate powder were used in laboratory tests.

Fatty Acids & Longevity

https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles/PMC6826135/. Like flavonoids, fatty acids have demonstrated extended lifespans of many species. In humans, a sixteen-year study published in the Annals of Internal Medicine reported that blood levels of fatty acids (omega-3) correlated with lifespan. The higher levels of fatty acids, the longer lifespans were observed. There was a 27% reduction in total mortality with the highest blood levels of fatty acids.

Organooxygens & Longevity

I usually can find related studies to affirm the article’s data. For example, I searched extensively for organooxygen compounds and longevity or lifespan and struck out a dozen or more times. Usually, I can find a compound, search its occurrence in natural foods, and attempt to identify the mechanisms in the human body that promote health and aging. In this situation, I was unable to do that.

Organooxygens compounds are any chemical compound that has a carbon-oxygen bond. There are thousands of them. Alcohol and sugar are two common foods containing an oxygen and carbon bond. I searched the DrugAge database that was referenced and searched using the organooxygen term and found no results. The paper published in Nature Communications Scientific Report was of no value in identifying the specific compounds tested in the AI study.

Conclusion

AI can certainly expedite the discovery of compounds that inhibit or promote healthy aging. Thus, age-related diseases can be countered with healthy living before and during our elder years.

Not all studies on other species convert exactly to humans. For example, caloric restriction extends many animal lifespans, but it has not been proven in humans. Some surmise that we have not lived long enough to test this theory properly.
