Toxins can lead to obesity.

Toxins are almost impossible to escape in our society. They are in our foods, personal care products and the air we breathe. When your body is flooded with toxins, it is extremely difficult to lose weight. This overload condition forces your liver, and other organs to work overtime to properly filter and flush the toxins from your body.

However, if toxins are accumulating faster than they can be eliminated, then your body begins to use its fat supplies to isolate and insulate the toxins from damaging sensitive parts of your body.

Your body will not give up fat easily when your fat is being used to protect itself. If you manage to lose a little fat, it will be replaced more quickly than normal. Your body has built-in protection mechanisms. Fat is used to protect your body from toxins. The more toxins you accumulate, the more likely you will gain weight and keep it.

Most toxins are fat soluble. Therefore, your body fat has an attraction for them. Your fat cells ‘absorb’ the toxic chemicals in their outer cell membrane. The absorbed toxic chemicals cause your fat cells to release leptin.

Leptin is a hormone that tells your brain to burn fat for energy. Toxins captured in your fat cells continually activate your leptin process, causing your leptin levels to be elevated – far beyond normal. You might think that this will cause your brain to act faster to burn more fat, but it is just the opposite.

The long-term, constantly elevated flood of leptin in your body causes the receptors in your brain that react to normal levels of leptin to be overpowered and become unable to respond. They are ‘burned out’, so to speak. The result is like insulin resistance in Type II Diabetes. The lights are on, but no one is responding. Your brain will decide to not to burn your fat, regardless of your diet and exercise.

If you have been on a diet and exercising regularly without losing weight, you might have leptin resistance. Toxin elimination will normalize the leptin response and allow your body to begin burning fat again. The fat burning process will lead to weight loss.
