The foods we choose to eat influence our weight.

I specialize in cause and effect relationships in the human body. The government-imposed house arrest for COVID-19 has some of us losing weight, but most of us not happy with our efforts. What can possibly be wrong? We need to know what prevents or assists us to effectively lose weight.

Fat Management System

Fat cells have a direct impact on weight loss. Fat cells (adipocytes) regulate how much fat comes in and goes out. Fat cells become your fat management system, so to speak. The fat management system determines the size of fat cells and their quantity in your body. Fat cells specialize in storing energy as fat.

There are communications protocols within the fat management system. Fat cells communicate with the brain to shut down your appetite when you have eaten enough. They also trigger fat-burning operations to use up the fat stored in your fat cells.

If your fat management system is not operating properly, weight loss is impaired. Aging can disrupt your communications signals and degrade or turn off the various mechanisms that the body uses to lose weight and keep you slim and trim.

White Fat Cells and Brown Fat Cells

There are two types of fat cells – white fat cells and brown fat cells. The white fat cells store triglycerides and secrete resistin, adiponectin, and leptin. The last two of these secretions affect metabolic processes and appetite which helps you to lose weight. White fat cells can grow to four-times their size before they divide and form new fat cells. Brown fat cells are used to generate heat.

Weight Gain

Most of the fats we digest are made up of triglycerides. Weight gain can occur when fat cells store excessive amounts of triglycerides. This was not a big deal when we were younger – all our communications signals were humming along and shutting this down and burning those extra calories.

Add a few decades, we find that we retain more fat, even though we eat less and exercise more. Inflammation and enzymes are two of the more prominent disruptors in the body’s fat management system and make it difficult to lose weight.

Leptin and Irvingia

Leptin is a protein hormone derived from your adipose (fat) cells. It is the most important of all the adipose-derived hormones and regulates long-term body weight, metabolism, and reproductive function. Leptin communicates with the brain for appetite and fat burning.

Leptin resistance is like insulin resistance. Over time resistance develops from defects in the leptin receptors (and other factors) as it attempts to cross the blood-brain barrier. Irvingia has been shown to unblock leptin resistance. Irvingia is derived from the West African tree, Irvingia gabonensis.

Adiponectin and Irvingia

There is a second signal sent out by fat cells –adiponectin, another fat-derived protein hormone. Its mission is to control the amount of fat (triglycerides) in fat cells and the number of fat cells in your body.

You can maintain or lose weight when adiponectin is operating correctly. It has been noted that as you age adiponectin diminishes due to gene transcriptional factors.

Irvingia also suppresses these transcriptional factors and allows normal levels of adiponectin to be replenished. High levels of adiponectin in the bloodstream indicate a low risk of coronary artery disease – low levels of adiponectin are usually observed in individuals overweight and increase the risk of coronary artery disease.

GPHD and Irvingia

GPHD (Glycerol-3-Phosphate Dehydrogenase) is an enzyme. As part of the fat management system, it triggers the conversion of blood glucose into stored fat. If too much of this enzyme is released into the body, you will store more fat than is necessary for normal metabolism.

Irvingia has been shown to inhibit the G3PD enzyme. As a result, the fat management system converts less sugar to body fat and makes it easier to lose weight.

The brain tells you when you are full. You should stop eating. Many of us continue eating anyway – habit primarily. We do not want to leave that last little bit on the plate, the meal costs a lot and does not want to waste it – lots of reasons.

Most of us ignore the signal from our brains to stop eating. Consider adding Irvingia as a dietary supplement to your personal fat management system. Do not ignore your brain’s signal to stop eating – you are full, and you do not recognize it. Extra calories will be converted to fat with or without Irvingia.
