Is Your Vision a Reality?

On the Camino de Santiago I could see a town several kilometers in front of me.  Because I could see it, I thought I could get to it quickly.  That never happened.  I got a bit disappointed because I could see what I wanted and my efforts to get there were not enough.  It took much longer to actually arrive at my immediate destination.

I believe life is similar.  We have visions of our future – homes, cars, spouses, children, education, financial status, health, etc.  However, it takes much longer to attain some of these compared to what we thought it would take.  Why?  I don’t know the answer to that question.  Everyone is different.  Everyone has different skill levels and the ability to achieve their goals.

When you think about your health, what are you visualizing?  I don’t think many people really have a health goal.  We see what we don’t want – wheelchair, bedridden, dependent on others, pain, etc.  And, if we have a health goal – a real vision of what we want – many times we get sidetracked with life and our clarity and goals erode.

What should a health goal look like in our mind’s eye?  I wrote a book about living to one-hundred years of age with the body of a healthy fifty-year-old and the mind of a twenty-five-year-old.  That is my health goal.  I know what I looked like at fifty (ability to do things – how I felt – my level of interaction with others, etc.).  I am now a couple of decades past that time in my life.

I could clearly see what lifestyle I had at one point in time in my life.  It was clear.  It was concise.  Could it have been better?  Yes.  Could I enjoy life at 100 years of age if I lived and acted like I was when I was 50 years of age?  Absolutely.

Clarity is needed for any goal in our lives.  Clarity for health goals become muddy if we don’t have clearness and precision in our thinking.  Without clarity, our vision begins to disappear.  We might see what we want, but our ability to get there is overtaken by other factors in life.
