Our mindset drives our choices in life.

The first question to answer is, What is a mindset? It means different things to different people. The most commonly understood definition is that a mindset is a set of assumptions held by a person. These assumptions are the sum total of his or her intellect. We, most of us, love to live in our comfort zones. Our mindset ensures that we never venture over the edge of our comfort zones.

It is difficult to change our mindset because most of us think we know what we need to know.  We are basically happy with it. We know our strengths and weaknesses and are willing to live our lives with those constraints. There are some of us who love to learn new things.

Learning is only part of the equation. If you want to change, you have to act on those newly learned ideas and make some mistakes. The lessons learned from our mistakes create the environment for growth. This can apply to each of us personally, our businesses, and our relationships. I chose to stop at only three – there are many more.

My focus in this blog is to draw attention to our health mindset. Our health happens because of what we eat and what we do. Some of us have a definitive notion of what we eat – vegetarians, for example, don’t eat meat for lots of reasons. I have talked to many vegetarians about the need for balanced nutrition. I have not found one who understands the need to achieve balance in their dietary selections. They will shake their heads and keep moving on in their lives unchanged.

As a vegetarian, it is possible to obtain all the required nutrients (vitamins, minerals, amino acids, etc.) daily. But, it is very difficult if you don’t know what each food item has and what it is lacking. We are sometimes stuck with our mindset, our belief system. We know what we want and we won’t change.
