Turning on and off specific genes produce various types of corn. Our DNA is the same.

Cancer can be devastating, especially when not detected early. I believe everyone knows someone who had cancer and died from it. My wife had breast cancer several years ago. It was caught early and treated. She survived that experience and walked 500 miles across Spain in 30 days in thanksgiving for a full recovery two years after her last radiation treatment.

A Key to Control Cancer?

https://www.goodnewsnetwork.org/green-tea-compound-could-hold-key-to-beating-cancer/ Green tea contains catechins. The four main catechins are epicatechin (EC), epicatechin-3-gallate (ECG), epigallocatechin (EGC, and epigallocatechin-3-gallate (EGCG). (https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles/PMC6076941/) EGCG is noted for many health improvements. A recent study focuses on EGCG and the p53 gene.

The p53 Gene

https://www.nature.com/scitable/topicpage/p53-the-most-frequently-altered-gene-in-14192717/ I have asked many medical professionals, including my wife’s oncologist and her radiologist, “what causes cancer?” Either they did not know or did not want to share an opinion. I research the human body trying to find the cause of things. Doctors treat symptoms, not causes.

My research shows that stress, toxins, radiation, infection, inflammation, diet, and even expectations can cause cancer—each of those causes a cell to mutate. At first, the mutations are controlled, and damaged DNA is repaired and works properly again.

However, chronic, low-level inflammation can overpower the repair mechanisms, and a mutation can develop a life of its own. Even if a doctor wanted to test a person for cancer, the mutated cell is too small to detect, and there are no symptoms to indicate there is a problem.

Over time, the mutated cell grows into a cancer cell. It could be detected if there was a reason. Symptoms tell a doctor that a health problem should be investigated further. We tend to avoid doctors or hospitals with minor issues. But minor problems ignored long enough can become severe. Sometimes, serious health issues cannot be resolved before death occurs.

Of the seven causes, I listed earlier, how can they cause a mutation? The standard theory is that they generate free radicals that constantly attack and damage cells. OK, that is a well-known hypothesis. Antioxidants neutralize free radicals, and the overall effect is no damage to cells.

The Standard American Diet does not provide all the different kinds of antioxidants needed to provide the repelling forces to drive the enemy from our body’s battlefield. Each antioxidant works differently. We need balanced nutrition to provide the necessary tools, at the cellular level, to attain and maintain good health.

Getting back to the p53 gene – it appears to be a common denominator for cancer. Researchers tell us that cells do not become cancerous unless the p53 gene is turned off.

Tumor Suppressing Genes

https://www.cancer.org/cancer/cancer-cause

s/genetics/genes-and-cancer/oncogenes-tumor-suppressor-genes.html p53 is a tumor-suppressing gene. These kinds of genes slow down cell division and repair DNA damage. When the p53 gene is suppressed or inhibited, a cell’s controlled growth cycle can enter the world of chaos. Tumors can develop and grow.

Getting back to green tea, the EGCG catechin switches on the p53 gene. Another common name for the p53 gene is the ‘Guardian of the Genome.’ (https://www.mskcc.org/news/new-findings-clarify-how-guardian-genome-works) The p53 gene stabilizes normal cell growth and prevents or suppresses mutations.

My mind tells me to drink more green tea to ensure I have a good army of protectors roaming through my body, looking for p53 genes that are turned off and switching them back on. However, the medical research world prefers to develop a pill (drug) to do the same thing a natural option would provide.

Conclusion

Is p53 the only tumor-suppressing gene in our bodies? No, there are others. Drinking green tea cannot usually hurt you. There is caffeine in green tea, and some people have problems with caffeine.
Green tea has many health benefits. Add cancer prevention to the list according to some recent research. I drink six teas daily – green, white, oolong, pouchong, pu erh, and gynostemma.
