At some point in time restrictions for the pandemic virus need to be revisited.

A month ago, Ireland notified the world that all COVID-19 restrictions would be lifted in September and October. Two days ago, Norway announced it had abolished its COVID-19 restrictions and reopened its borders to travelers.

Too Soon?

https://www.irishtimes.com/news/politics/almost-all-covid-19-restrictions-to-be-lifted-by-october-22nd-under-government-plan-1.4659763. At the end of August, Ireland announced that restrictions on indoor seated events and outdoor events would be eased starting September 6th for both vaccinated and unvaccinated are included. Catholic church sacraments are approved to restart on the same date. Restrictions for trade conferences and live music for weddings are also removed.

The Irish Cabinet approved a return to the office for all workers starting September 20th. Indoor sports and small-scale activities are restarted for all. All other restrictions are planned to be removed by October 22nd.

Norway Surprise

https://www.reuters.com/business/healthcare-pharmaceuticals/norway-end-coronavirus-related-restrictions-saturday-2021-09-24/. Last week, Norway announced the removal of all COVID-19 restrictions. Contained in that proclamation is an open border for all travelers with various levels for safe EU countries and from all other countries.

Norway’s Prime Minister Erna Solberg declared that the time has come to return to a normal life. The economy has suffered enough. Those visitors quarantined can end their quarantine with proof of a negative test result on day three of their visit.

Hotel quarantines are also relaxed when visitors have a private home hosting them. In addition, fully vaccinated travelers are exempted from testing and quarantines.

Other Travel Relaxations

New Zealand, Australia, and the Netherlands have plans for lifting restrictions – some with vaccine passports. The link above goes into the details of those countries with plans to remove some COVID-19 restrictions by the end of 2021.

Conclusion

I am confused, although I should not be, with vaccine passports. We think that a vaccine should prevent us from getting a disease and stopping us from infecting others. However, the vaccines for COVID-19 do not prevent infection or prevent those vaccinated from passing the virus on to others. https://www.cdc.gov/coronavirus/2019-ncov/vaccines/effectiveness/why-measure-effectiveness/breakthrough-cases.html#:~:text=COVID%2D19%20vaccines%20are,get%20COVID%2D19.

So, if a vaccinated person becomes infected and can transmit the virus to another person, what is the value of a vaccine passport? The vaccine reduces the severity of COVID-19 symptoms to reduce the risk of hospitalization and death.
https://www.irishtimes.com/news/health/covid-54-of-hospital-patients-with-virus-are-fully-vaccinated-1.4670229 is from a recent report that over half the people in Irish hospitals being treated for COVID-19 are fully vaccinated.

https://www.beckershospitalreview.com/public-health/nearly-60-of-hospitalized-covid-19-patients-in-israel-fully-vaccinated-study-finds.html also confirms the Irish hospital situation as Israel has 60% of those hospitalized for COVID-19 are fully vaccinated.

Published statistics are hard to find for those fully vaccinated people who are hospitalized for coronavirus. My research shows that data posted just a month or two earlier supports the premise that vaccines are not 100% effective. However, as time moves forward, more articles are being published with unusually high positive test rates for the fully vaccinated and hospital rooms filled with infected fully vaccinated patients.

Many hospital statistics claiming COVID-19 patients now include those with COVID-19 (as would be expected) and those in the hospital for another health reason and had no symptoms of COVID-19 and tested positive for the virus. https://www.newsmax.com/us/covid-19-hospitalizations-asymptomatic-cases/2021/09/19/id/1037065/

What is one to do? Borders are opening, and restrictions are being erased in some parts of the world. Other countries are maintaining and even increasing restrictions (for example, banning workers who are not vaccinated).

As a person having had COVID-19 recently (this month), my status of naturally acquired immunity is not fully understood or addressed in vaccine passports and other documents.

  1. Total ambiguity and professed confusion. Unfortunately, I’m seeing this as all too well planned and choreographed by power hungry politicians. That, however,is an entirely different story!!
