Visualization is key to victory.

2017 is due in a little over a couple of days. I’m like many of y’all in that I want improvement in my life from one year to the next. If you ask me what my ‘resolutions’ were for 2014, 2015 or 2016, I would not be able to tell you accurately. I didn’t write them down.

I knew what I wanted – more prosperity, healthier life, more travel, etc. The standard list for many people. I write down my business goals, yet I didn’t write down my New Year’s Resolutions. Is that bad? There is a saying around my house (and many others) – If it isn’t written down it won’t happen.

Writing something down increases the chances that it will happen. Vince Poscente is a motivational speaker and has written many books. I have listened to him speak at various conferences. He made a resolution, a commitment, to win the Olympic Gold Medal. It’s a very interesting story that has many twists. He made it to a couple of Olympics and had great success.

He would place colored dots on various things around his house and car. Every time he saw a colored dot he would stop momentarily and savor the moment of winning the Olympic Gold Medal. He hadn’t won it yet, but he visualized what it would feel like to have won it. He placed that feeling in his subconscious mind as an occurrence in his life that was very successful.

Our subconscious mind is what helps us or hinders us from accomplishing what we want to do. If we have failed at losing weight, for example, as a New Year’s Resolution, then our subconscious mind sees that as a failure – and, it is. We didn’t accomplish our goal. However, the prime directive of your subconscious mind is to not allow any harm to come to you. Failure is perceived as bad – something that your subconscious mind doesn’t want to have happen again.

Your subconscious mind will do everything in its power to prevent you from accomplishing your goal of losing weight because you have failed in the past and you will fail again. Therefore, no success – the prime directive is met.

You have to visualize accomplishing your goal many, many, many times to replace those failed occasions in your brain. Your subconscious mind cannot tell the difference between real and imagined. That is the key to making a change in your future – something that you have failed at in the past.  You can fool your subconscious mind into helping you rather than stopping you flat by effectively using visualization.
