Pick a pill, any pill!

The next generation of vaccine options is almost upon us. I have written about being protected from the pandemic virus by using vaccine pills or nasal vaccine sprays.

Now, it appears that a pill is being seen as a light at the end of the tunnel. By the end of this year, Pfizer plans to release a vaccine pill to combat the SARS-CoV-2 virus.

Oral Vaccine Pills

Protease Inhibitors

https://www.breakthroughs.com/foundations-science/protease-inhibitors-fight-covid-19-stopping-virus-life-cycle. The COVID-19 virus requires an enzyme to replicate itself before attacking the rest of the body. All viruses use this technique.

Protease inhibitors stop the enzyme from performing the replication of the viral particles. Stop that process, and the virus dies because it cannot invade any other parts of our bodies.

Pfizer Oral Vaccine Clinical Trials

https://www.pfizer.com/news/press-release/press-release-detail/pfizer-initiates-phase-1-study-novel-oral-antiviral. Phase 1 of the clinical trials for the new protease inhibitor for coronavirus is complete.

PF-07321332 was tested in randomized, double-blind, placebo-controlled, single, and multiple dose-escalation studies on healthy adults in the United States. PF-07304814 is an intravenously administered protease inhibitor undergoing trials with hospital patients infected with COVID-19.

Tests are being performed against the COVID-19 virus as well as other coronaviruses. Protease inhibitors work well with other viruses such as hepatitis C and HIV.

Conclusion

Maybe I am misreading some of the initial research. Still, it appears that the oral vaccine pill is intended primarily for those coming down with symptoms rather than a preventive medication. Pfizer tells us that the vaccine inoculation prevents the spread of the disease and their protease inhibitor works to prevent people from becoming hospitalized.

Regardless, it appears that help is on the way to offer options to those people who do not want to take the mRNA vaccine for whatever reasons. When these people become infected, the oral protease inhibitor would provide safety against hospitalization and death from COVID-19. The oral pill would be used at home, and the intravenous delivery would be for hospital patients.

I am looking forward to more information on this subject. Maybe this is not the vaccine pill I originally thought it was, but it offers a level of safety that we do not currently have. There are over 250 research projects investigating vaccines, pills, and nasal sprays to combat COVID-19.
