Youth is overcome by age.

Before you know it 2017 will be upon us. I’ve noticed as I get older, time seems to fly by much faster than it did many years ago. I’ve heard similar statements from others getting on in their years.

When we are young, our immune systems made up for a lot of bad decisions we made regarding our health – food choices, toxins, exercise, stress, etc. Our immune system is our first line of defense against disease. As we age, our bodies produce less and less of the needed chemicals for a healthy and strong immune system. Age opens the door for age-related disease.

And, before you know it, you might have diabetes, a heart condition, high blood pressure, obesity, thyroid problems, arthritis, etc. The list goes on and on.  Just yesterday it seemed we were doing well and, all of a sudden, our health started to unravel. One medical condition after another hit us and we didn’t quite recover from it as quickly as we used to.

I haven’t had a cold or other minor health problem in several years. I can’t remember the last time I had a headache, a runny nose, or pain in my body. Yet, I meet people, especially during the Christmas season, who can’t seem to shake a cold. A friend of mine has had one for well over a month.

Before you know it, you will look and feel like an older person. You will experience the aches and pains of old age. You will see your list of prescription medicines double or triple. Hopefully, you won’t find out that your life is shortened by an undiagnosed tumor or other very serious medical condition.

Age happens. Yet, we have the ability to shut down the aging processes and actually become a bit younger. It requires awareness, education and action. 2017 is literally around the corner. Why don’t take some action today, before the start of 2017, to be healthier and younger way down the road?

  1. Good morning from Greece!
Well, long time ago, I decided to stop aging. I left myself feeling and saying I am 17 born in 1977. Nope! I am not a vampire.
I feel that you age physically if you age mentally. I did not celebrate my 17 birthday. I was preoccupied reading for the panhellenic examinations, i.d. exams that determine whether you study at a public university or not. I lost one birthday of my life, only to discover years later, that it is up to me, to celebrate my 17th birthday each year. You know what the funny thing is, I look my classmates and I feel that they aged, and I stayed young! It is amazing what the mind and heart can do to your body. It is just a matter of decision.
